Without a doubt, 2014 will be a watershed year for the healthcare sector, and RYAN Associates has two educational offerings for programs and organizations wanting an edge.
Training in Occupational Health Sales and Marketing
It started with a bang, not a whimper. Twenty-four years and counting. That’s how long it has been since RYAN Associates’ president Frank Leone and Ken Mack, former president of Discover Marketing Innovations, met at a healthcare marketing conference in New Orleans and hatched a plan for an occupational health sales training program.
Its inaugural program, offered in Cleveland, had an eerie, unexpected twist. On the Denver to Cleveland
leg of his flight itinerary, the hydraulic system on Mr. Leone’s United Airlines plane failed, and the crew turned the plane around for an emergency landing back in Denver. Just weeks earlier, 111 passengers perished when another United flight out of Denver crashed in Sioux City, Iowa––a tragedy also triggered by a hydraulic system problem. Shaken but undeterred, Mr. Leone arrived in Cleveland hours before the start of training the following day.
RYAN Associates has presented the sales program more than 50 times throughout the country since 1989, though Mr. Leone has taught the course solo for the last 10 years.
These days, the course is offered annually in December in Chicago. The two-and-a-half-day program includes lectures, workshops, mock presentations, and one-on-one consulting with faculty. The course’s perennial opening night reception at Carmine’s has achieved legendary status and the Christmas spirit that pervades nearby North Michigan Avenue seems omnipresent. “I love teaching this course,” said Mr. Leone, not the least because the camaraderie among registrants is so contagious. Plus, the balance of learning modalities cultivated over 25 years is stimulating.
The course provides an essential portfolio of skills to inexperienced occupational health sales professionals but also holds value for the most seasoned sales/ marketing professional.
