RE: SPRING QUARTER 2014 NAOHP BOARD MEETING
FROM: MADELINE TAN, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

The NAOHP Board held its spring quarter meeting on May 14, 2014, via teleconference. NAOHP Board President Dr. Steve Crawford, Executive Director Frank Leone, and board members Debbie Borisjuk, Trena Williams, Marilyn Trinkle, and Brenda Jacobsen were present. Director of Operations Madeline Tan and VISIONS Editor Isabelle Walker were also in attendance.

IMPROVING NAOHP MEMBERSHIP VALUE

Dr. Crawford asked each board member to provide their candid input on how to improve the value of the association to its members. Mr. Leone noted that course topics were chosen democratically by NAOHP members. Through an online survey, members ranked their interest in 40 potential topics. Ms. Jacobsen suggested adding mid-year regional conferences to help accommodate providers’ limited healthcare budgets. Ms. Borisjuk brought up the idea of strengthening relationships with regional members by contacting them personally; the board unanimously approved this idea. Dr. Crawford suggested the board set up a regional conference call to have regular contact with members who may have questions or concerns about industry issues and trends. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Leone suggested that board members send any additional ideas or comments regarding this idea to Ms. Tan.

A FEW NOTABLE COMMENTS FROM BOARD MEMBERS:

“Moving beyond program leadership to front-line staff in our educational outreach, thereby increasing value to the occupational health practice, will serve to add significant value to our entire program. It takes it to the level of day-to-day operation, where the rubber meets the road. It also speaks directly to profitability. This idea will best be put into practice via the web, allowing front-line staff to tune in, rather than leave the clinic premises. Drug testing practices, telephone protocol, confidentiality, and customer service specific to occupational health are among the topics we could tackle. Each of these topics could further be reduced to subtopics.” – Ms. Trinkle “The idea of expanding the regional reps and their communications with members in their region is another area worth exploring. Should we implement a monthly/quarterly e-mail? An annual call to “say hello” and/or introduce the regional rep?” – Dr. Crawford
