Doctors Care and its affiliates treat more than a million patients a year — but we started with the simple goal of filling a need. Doctors Care and its nonmedical management company, UCI Medical Affiliates, began in 1981 as the first minor-emergency medical center in South Carolina. The company has grown to include more than 52 medical centers, with more than 1,200 employees statewide.
Today, Doctors Care’s scope of practice incorporates primary care, urgent care, occupational medicine, and corporate wellness. We offer flexible evening and weekend hours and support some 4,500 major employers and municipalities across South Carolina.
Our affiliate, Progressive Physical Therapy, spans the state with 25 locations, providing a range of occupational and rehabilitation services and workers’ compensation support. We also have two wellness sites that coordinate services with Doctors Care to enhance the overall health of those we serve. As innovators in our field, Doctors Care was the first in the state to offer online check-in at all of its locations and the first to provide virtual access to care through our web-based platform, Doctors Care Anywhere.
Our strategy for working with clients involves defining the metrics that will best serve their employee populations. We turn utilization data — such as patient volumes, aggregate reporting, and injury types — into tailored programs for injury prevention, wellness programs, and clinic services. Our programs deliver measurable results through participation rates, lower absenteeism, decreased worksite injuries, increased access to care, and mitigated risks.
The Doctors Care onsite wellness team delivers well-being services that are accessible and convenient. These include biometric screenings, annual physicals, and customized education such as lunch-and-learn sessions. Doctors Care works with company representatives to develop comprehensive wellness plans for education, motivation, and results tracking. Our team helps insurance companies navigate gaps in care, using our wellness team and local Doctors Care office staff to assist with diagnostic testing and providing educational tools in rural communities.
While Doctors Care is noteworthy for its decades of urgent care services, our company also focuses on the future. One enhancement we’re excited about begins on July 1, 2022. We are adding a board-certified occupational medicine provider and board-certified orthopedist, enabling us to treat more patients in-center. This will help them avoid the expense of specialty referrals. We look forward to the continued expansion of services to benefit our customers and deliver convenient, high-quality health care to our patients.
