President’s Message Post Conference

My thanks to all the attendees, speakers, exhibitors and sponsors of our very successful annual conference in Denver, CO last week.

We kicked it off with an engaging keynote discussion from Ryan Jenkins, author of “Connectable,” which set the theme of building inter-disciplinary and inter-generational connections and relationships.

PROVIDER NETWORK

We also launched another type of connection at the conference, the NAOHP Provider network via our partnership with Uberdoc.  This is an unprecedented opportunity for our members to represent the highest quality occupational medicine network in the US for the benefit of employers and workers.

We have tens of thousands of exams that need to be completed by year-end, so please get enrolled now:

CLICK HERE TO ENROLL : UBERDOC | NAOHP network

Practice managers, go ahead and signup and select “Practice Administrator” as the provider type to get your account started, then we’ll assist to fill in your providers and locations.

You will need to have an active membership to proceed to credentialing and to schedule and perform the exams, so please do that here if you are a non-member or need to renew.  Don’t worry about renewing too early, a full year will be added to your current expiration date.

New members will find a wealth of material, videos, articles, discussion groups on naohp.com.

A REMINDER ALSO THE FULL DOTMentor video series IS FREE FOR MEMBERS – 44 VIDEOS COVERING ALL THE NUANCES OF PERFORMING DOT EXAMS PRESENTED OVER A 2 YEAR PERIOD.

OCCHEALTH MEDICAL RECORDS

One thing that really struck me and our NAOHP board members was how much confusion remains regarding the Occhealth Medical Record.

These Issues include:

  • How to keep employment related records separate from the general health record, especially in larger health systems with common EHR for affiliated providers.
  • What information employers may have and in what format.
  • Patient access to their own records.
  • HIPPA privacy rules as relates to work comp and other employment exams and testing

Remember that although work comp does not fall under HIPPA, that does not mean employers should have access to the entire medical record – only the minimum necessary to properly care for and communicate to prepare the injured worker for recovery and return to work.

HERE’S A little guide of what should be included in the Occhealth medical record.

PLEASE ALSO CHECK OUT OUR Occupational Health Medical Record COURSE WHICH ANSWERS ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT COMPILING, MAINTAINING AND SHARING INFORMATION.

PROVIDER TRAINING

We also learned there are many new APPs that have been coming into the occmed world and physicians from other specialties that may not have much background in occmed.

The Occmed for Providers course is just the ticket to learn all the basic, everyday exams and work comp concepts you need to know.

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION GROUPS

We launched this “experiment” at last year’s conference and it was well received, so this year board member Stephanie Murdock led “Open Space Roundtable” sessions.

This allowed for deeper Q&A and discussion of many burning topics that we’ll continue to present over the next year’s Town Halls, webinars and 2024 conference.

Here are some of the highlighted topics, if you see something you are expert in and would like to contribute – maybe as a Town Hall expert, or write an article or present at next year’s conference, please reply here and we’ll connect:
